Why Great
Sunrooms Mean Great Finished Basements
Temo developed the combination of the right materials
for your basement and décor options that have never
before been available – all rolled into an invisible-seam
panel that makes installation conveniently clean and
quick and gives you the finished appearance of your
walls upstairs.
The expertise that led to the
development of Designer Basements comes from TEMO’s
history as a pioneer in product development for recreational
spaces – that’s all we do. It started with sunrooms.
Making a good idea better
When I founded TEMO more than 35 years ago, sunrooms
were like Model-T cars, eight-track tapes or popcorn
cooked over an open flame. They were good ideas that
hadn’t yet evolved. Sunrooms were too hot in the summer
and too cold the rest of the year. The problem was
the materials and design.
TEMO developed thermal sunroom wall and roof panels
which changed the industry. Our many other innovations
such as windows built strong enough to withstand hurricane-force
winds and surface materials that are nearly indestructible
not only evolved sunrooms to a model of beauty and
function, but set the standards.
Today, TEMO is the first and largest manufacturer
of thermal sunrooms in the United States. A TEMO sunroom
is known for its engineering, quality, value and return
on investment. We applied the same criteria in developing
Designer Basements.
Why basement-safe materials matter
In the past, basements were finished by painting the
walls or gluing paneling to the foundation itself.
Then paneling or drywall was attached to wood studs
drilled into the foundation. There was no insulation
or ineffective insulation.
These types of standard construction
materials and installation are not suitable for the
basement. The basement can be cold or moist. Cold
and moist can add up to uncomfortable and moldy. And
that adds up to ruined materials, an unhealthy space
and wasted money.
Designer Basements is made specifically for your basement,
with the advantage of great looks. Our solid thermal
panels have three important layers for numerous benefits.
Best face forward
TemGuard F.R.A. is our solid, non-porous, panel surface.
It does not retain allergens or odors. It’s also paperless,
non-organic and moisture resistant. Mold requires
an organic material (like paper, wood and other fibers)
plus a water source to grow.
TemGuard F.R.A. helps protect against mold growth
and stands up to the effects of basement humidity
that can cause water retention, swelling and material
destruction. TemGuard F.R.A. is also a code-approved
fire guard.
Thermal core for comfort and protection
The core of our panels is a 100 percent thermal barrier,
made with Expanded Polystyrene. This solid material
is recommended by the US Department of Energy as a
superior insulator in basements and has a higher thermal
rating over other insulating choices.
Your conditioned air and heat doesn’t get past the
barrier to escape through the porous concrete foundation,
saving energy. And, the cold, air and natural moisture
that sneaks in through the foundation wall is blocked
from reaching your room, providing comfort.
